Embracing Change: My Journey from Hair Loss to Wig Confidence

As a well-known TV host, let's talk about whether I'm young or not, shall we? Why wear a wig? Because of hair loss. So, let's start with that.

Hair loss, it's a common topic. Let's chat about my journey from hair transplant, hair care, to the final solution for my hair loss.
I have two reasons for hair loss. Firstly, it's genetic. Most of our fate is already hidden in our genes. My dad started losing his hair before he hit 40, so I couldn't escape that fate. But my hair loss was more severe and earlier than my dad's, mainly because during my college years, I really pushed my hair to its limits.

I started dancing at 17, first Korean dance, then street dance. I did it to emulate idols and express my personality. In the free-spirited university campus where hair color was not regulated, I dyed (bleached) my hair yellow, red, chestnut... almost every semester, I'd experiment.

Besides dyeing, I also followed the trend of perming. Foil perm, fireworks perm, I've done them all. Even in 2005, I tried dreadlocks once. It took three people seven hours to braid them, and over two hours to unravel them in the end.

With that intensity, who could handle their hair? So, just past 30, my hair bid farewell like boarding school kids, each heading its own way. The homebodies stayed on the pillow, the water lovers stayed in the bathroom, and those yearning for afar drifted away, leaving behind my gradually thinning crown and a widening forehead.

In 2015, at 32, my hair loss was so obvious that I gritted my teeth and decided to undergo hair transplant surgery.

It wasn't cheap. A friend of a friend gave me a discount, and it still cost me 22,000. I remember they transplanted 3000 hair follicles.

Yes, hair transplant is charged per follicle. If you're just fixing the hairline, you need fewer follicles, but if you're as sparse as me everywhere, you need at least 3000 to see results. The follicles are taken from the back of the head, where the hair is thick, and since the neck area is usually shaved, taking follicles from there doesn't affect the visual appearance.

The transplant was successful, although immediately after, my scalp was bloody and messy. But after scabbing, shedding, haircuts, and the growth cycle (about 4 weeks), my hair grew thick and lush, bringing joy to my heart.

But the effect is not permanent. The original hair will continue to fall out gradually with age, genetics, and lifestyle habits. And the transplanted hair won't stay with you forever.

Drinking alcohol, consuming spicy and greasy food, staying up late, and psychological stress can all cause varying degrees of hair loss again. So, achieving a permanent effect through hair transplant is impossible.

So nearing 40, I found myself in a sparse state again. Ah, such is my life, half bald and half not!

Some say, why not transplant again? Well, first, I've been through it, and its coverage period isn't as long as imagined. Second, my balding area is too large, requiring many follicles. I'm not sure if there are enough from the back of my head, and the cost would surely skyrocket.

What to do then? I turned to wigs.

You've probably seen those wig clips on TikTok. Shave the top of your head, put on the wig clip, and instantly you're transformed into a handsome young man.

But there's a problem. If my hair is truly so sparse that it can't even cover the top of my head (like those old party cadres), I'd just bite the bullet and shave it all off, then stick on a wig.

This is the effect of using hairline spray.

Currently, my hair volume can barely hold up, and spraying on black hairline spray helps cover it up. If you ask me to shave it all off, although wearing a wig clip yields decent results, seeing myself without it makes me feel like a kappa (water sprite), and that mental gap is something I can't accept right now.

So, a few years ago, I got a clip-on wig that attaches directly to the hair. But I misjudged my own image back then; the hairstyle was too young, and now it feels mismatched with my age. So, I've hardly worn it since.

Still, I refuse to accept it. I mean, 40 isn't that old, why settle?

So, I had a full wig customized from a neighbor.

Let me explain the difference between a wig clip and a full wig. A wig clip only covers the balding top of your head and is trimmed to blend naturally with your own hair, achieving a pleasing effect. A full wig, on the other hand, wraps around both front and back, like wearing a hat directly on the head.

On February 25th, the morning of my personal performance, the wig finally arrived. In a rush, my neighbor helped me trim and style it, and then I confidently took the stage wearing my full wig.

Later, I felt the hair was a bit too thick, so I had a hairstylist thin it out a bit, and then came the feeling below.

After experiencing hair loss, transplant, hair loss again, wearing wig clips, and now wearing a full wig + hairline spray, I'm basically a "sparse hair treatment expert."

You might ask which method is the best; it depends on the individual. But if your hair is so sparse that it can't cover the top of your head, and you care about your image, I suggest going all out and getting a wig clip or full wig.

Now comes the advertising part. Through a fortunate coincidence, I met the owner of FSN, a large wig manufacturer. Their factory is in Shandong, China, and their products are exported to Europe and North America. They mainly produce high-end wigs and hair extensions for women. Many wealthy individuals and dignitaries abroad have custom-made wigs from them. Their product quality is absolutely impeccable, and when you wear them, it's absolutely indistinguishable from real hair. Whether you want to customize a wig clip or a full wig, they'll definitely satisfy you. They also cooperate with many film and television companies, and some of the wigs worn by famous actors in movies and TV dramas come from FSNWIGS. If you have wig needs, you can Google search fsnhair; they rank first. You can also visit their website or contact them directly. Trust me, when you see the samples, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the quality and craftsmanship.

Life is long, don't settle too early; a younger appearance makes one more confident.
